A new hot power yoga studio is coming to the Charlotte area
The staff of Fort Mill’s new hot power yoga studio, Carolina Yoga, hopes to open the doors by mid-November. That means they’ll turn on the heat, too — to 95 degrees Fahrenheit or hotter.
Practitioners will be able to choose from 60 classes each week and up to 20 instructors, with non-heated options in the mix. Each day will end with a deep-stretch-style “recover” class that is non-heated.
Owned by certified yoga instructor Eric Stajos, who is also an owner and president at Big Fireworks, Carolina Yoga will fill its 3,500 square-foot space at 1309 Broadcloth St., Suite 104 in Fort Mill, with three studio rooms, men’s and women’s locker rooms with showers, and more than 600 square feet of retail space featuring local vendors. Other amenities will include shower towels with no rental fee, as well as mats and mat towels to rent.
“We’re really working on the community,” said general manager and instructor Amber Sebbio.
Even down to the soaps: They are working with a local company to make shampoo, conditioner and body wash for the showers.
The staff wants that community aspect to seep into the classroom, as well.
“We want to build a community and be able to introduce more of a workout than so much of the yoga aspect,” Sebbio said.
That translates into a high-energy flow to create an intense physical workout, with the added elements of heat, strength and an emphasis on core.
Originally intended to open as the second Y2 Yoga location, Carolina Yoga branched off as a separate brand to join other tenants at Fort Mill’s Kingsley Town Center including Starbucks, Brixx and Carolina Ale House.
Instructors will teach classes based on a structural template, so, “no matter who’s teaching the class you’ll know what you’re getting into — you’ll be familiar with the sequence,” Sebbio said.
The teachers will also have freedom to play their own music and will workshop postures in the middle of the sequences to get students excited to try new poses, Sebbio said.
“We want it to be welcoming and inviting to everyone,” she said, adding that workshops will be incorporated into the schedule for those looking for spiritual elements and other aspects of the yoga practice.
“We really want to open eyes in South Carolina to hot power,” she said.
