Free-standing Starbucks proposed for South Boulevard

A free-standing Starbucks could be coming to South Boulevard at the Tyvola Road intersection.

Preliminary plans call for the demolition of the gas station at 5235 South Blvd. to make way for a free-standing, 2,200 square-foot Starbucks with a drive-thru and a parking lot. In the proposed cafe’s current spot is a Shell gas station.

The project planner who submitted the paperwork could not be reached for comment on Friday.

A drive-thru Starbucks could be somewhat of a commercial boon for a part of Charlotte that hasn’t seen much new development in recent years. The proposed cafe is close to a Dunkin’ Donuts, and across South from Punta Cana restaurant.

About three miles up the street, another smaller Starbucks cafe will open this summer at the new Harris Teeter at Sedgefield. Publix opened a Starbucks cafe at its South Boulevard earlier this year, too.
