South End ice cream shop Golden Cow Creamery opens Saturday (finally)
It’s been nearly five months since I first told you about Golden Cow Creamery’s desire to bring craft ice cream to South End. Now it’s finally becoming a reality.
Golden Cow will open its South End ice cream shop to the public this Saturday (Aug. 27). The shop will also be open Sunday and regular store hours will start Sept. 1.
“It feels great (to finally have an opening date),” Alex Hannah, who’s opening the store with his wife, Liz, said via email. “We have had more issues than you can imagine and every one cost us at least a week. … Now it’s time for the fun part, which for us is sharing our ice cream with our friends and creating a fun place to be.”
The shop will be at the corner of S. Church Street and W. Summit Ave.
Hannah said back in March that Golden Cow will make the ice cream by hand using fresh cream, milk, eggs and sugar. He plans to experiment to create unique flavors, similar to the way a craft brewery approaches making craft beer. (Golden Cow worked with NoDa Brewing to create a Hop, Drop ‘N’ Roll ice cream earlier this year.)
Over the past few weeks, Golden Cow has been doing pop-ups around town — on their porch, at NoDa Brewing and at Legion Brewing, among other places — leading up to the grand opening.
“It’s also been great to start meeting our neighbors and friends across Charlotte,” Hannah said. “We love how our shop is becoming a meeting place in South End. We have rocking chairs, patio space, and are a convenient stop between breweries, so it’s been a lot of fun to set up on our porch to be out with everyone.”
