Common Market in South End will close July 30

We’ve known this was coming for a while, but now it’s official: The Common Market in South End will close July 30, co-owner Chuck Barger said Wednesday in an email.

It was just a matter of time since the lot — which also included the Food Truck Friday lot — was sold last year to make way for a new office building.

Before closing, the shop will have a “Season Finale” party July 22, with a DJ, beer, street food, a bartender reunion, and The Sexy Power Symphony, consisting of an all-star lineup of Common Market employee musicians.

The Common Market is still looking for a new location in South End and “throughout the region,” said Barger, who co-owns the store with Blake Barnes. “Hopefully we will have more to announce by the beginning of July,” he said. There is also still the Common Market in Plaza Midwood.

“Notice that this is a ‘Season Finale’ not a ‘Series Finale,’” Barnes said. “We are just packing up the magic temporarily. We’ll be back.”
