AvidXchange breaks ground behind Mattie’s Diner. And other development news
AvidXchange broke ground yesterday behind Mattie’s Diner at NC Music Factory to turn a 32-acre site into its new corporate headquarters, with plans to develop a state-of-the-art campus.
According to a press release, AvidXchange received a state tax incentive package last September to create more than 600 jobs in Mecklenburg County by 2018. This campus will hold the company’s existing 420 employees, as well as the people expected to fill more than 600 technology jobs during the next four years.

TWO NEW TENANTS: A Walgreens and a restaurant will take over the one-story brick building under construction at 1500 Third St. near uptown. Charlotte Observer reporter Katie Peralta shared that the Walgreens is scheduled to open in about three months.
The restaurant filling the space has yet to be determined, but a lease is expected to be signed over the next couple of months and it will definitely be located on the side of the building that has an outdoor patio. A Walgreens patio would be kind of weird.
COMMON MISCONCEPTION: Though many of Charlotte’s fancy new skyscrapers are touted as energy efficient, Gill Holland pointed out that the greenest building is one that already exists. Holland, who was the keynote speaker at Friday’s U.S. Green Building Council North Carolina chapter’s gala, talked about the Green Building in Louisville, Ky., a 119-year-old structure that was re-purposed as an office and event space — and known for its energy-efficient qualities.
As Charlotte Observer reporter Ely Portillo pointed out, “It’s a topic likely to resonate in Charlotte, a fast-growing city that’s not exactly known for a surplus of older buildings.”
It’s something for the city to keep in mind for development in neighborhoods like South End, Elizabeth and NoDa, where older buildings are set to be replaced.
QUAIL HOLLOW EAST CONDOMINIUMS FOR SALE: The 13-acre site at the corner of Park Road and Sharon Road West is intended to be sold as a single property, with the expectation that the 82 condominium units in 12 buildings dating back to the 1970s will be torn down.
“Given the age of the buildings, we thought it was time for QHE to undergo a major transformation,” Jay Shapiro, president of the association said in a statement.
According to Shapiro, it’s probable that the space, which is part of Quail Hollow Estates, will be filled with a high-end townhouse development.
Guesses on the rent prices?
