– Mecklenburg County is looking for a developer to transform the 17 acres in Second Ward that house Marshall Park, the shuttered Board of Education building and the Bob Walton Plaza. The mixed-use development is called Brooklyn Village, a tribute to the city’s African-American community leveled during “urban renewal” in the late 1960s. …
– Wells Fargo said it’s laying off 132 people in the Charlotte area. All but five are in Fort Mill, where the bank has a mortgage operation. …
– Charlotte sports teams can’t be stopped right now. The Hornets are now 7-0 in the preseason after beating the Detroit Pistons 99-94 Wednesday night. …
– That idea to create “exclusion zones” — areas where people arrested there can’t return — in certain rough neighborhoods in Charlotte doesn’t seem to have a whole lot of support from the Charlotte City Council. …
