Nov. 12 headlines: Food Truck Friday has a new home! Two, actually

dlaird@charlotteobserver.com

When plans for a development on the Common Market/Food Truck Friday lot surfaced recently, many people wondered where the popular food truck gathering would move to. Now we know.

Starting next spring, Food Truck Friday will have two new homes, according to a report from the Observer’s Ely Portillo: At a Mecklenburg County-owned parcel at South Tryon and Kingston Avenue, and at the Light Factory, an art center on Central Avenue and Nandina Street in Plaza Midwood.

Not only does this keep food trucks in South End (awesome), but a second location would, in theory, cut down on the sometimes ridiculously long lines (also awesome).

“I never expected it to last four years when I started it,” said Gaines Brown, the organizer of FTF who started toying with the idea of a food truck gathering spot when he was laid up after surgery in 2011.

This week is the last Food Truck Friday event before it goes on winter hiatus.

Read more about the history of Food Truck Friday in Ely’s article, but mostly get excited for double FTF in the spring.
