I’ve lived in dorm rooms, efficiency apartments, studios and other places where space is at a premium — and most of them don’t come with a dishwasher. I’ve found that if you’re short on room or just don’t have a handy water hookup for a full-fledged dishwasher, a portable dishwasher makes for a cost-effective, convenient option. And with the ability to wash a full load of dishes and cookware with just a few gallons of water (compared to the dozens of gallons it can take to clean dishes by hand), portable dishwashers are way better for the environment — as well as my water bill.

Of all the portable dishwashers I’ve had over the years, my go-to has become the COMFEE’ Portable Mini Dishwasher, which packs a lot of cleaning power into a small footprint of only 21.6 inches wide, 19.7 inches deep, and 17.2 inches high. It’s also a great buy at the moment at 10% off its original price.

COMFEE’ Portable Dishwasher, $259.99 (10% off)

Don’t let the COMFEE’s compact size fool you; this is one thorough dishwasher, with 12 washing nozzles and a 360-degree spiral spray for a thorough cleaning every time. The best thing I can say about this machine is that it washes dishes just as well as regular dishwashers that cost three to four times as much. All you have to do is connect the included inlet and drain hoses from the dishwasher to a sink faucet and you’re ready to go.

In addition to standard cleaning modes, the COMFEE’ Portable Mini Dishwasher also features Baby-Care, ECO, Glass and Speed modes, along with an Extra Drying function that gets your dishware dry quickly. I find the Speed mode especially helpful; it can run through an entire wash and dry cycle in 45 minutes, which is helpful when you have to throw together a dinner for guests in a hurry.

For something that’s small enough to fit on a kitchen counter or a dining table, the COMFEE’ is also spacious, accommodating up to 70 pieces of tableware, including dishes up to 10 inches in diameter. (That’s enough for a full place setting for six people, plus room for other useful utensils like serving spoons and plates.) The unit also comes with a removable cutlery basket as well as cup shelves and a cup rack that ensure delicate drink ware like wine glasses don’t get damaged.

The COMFEE’ operates at a relatively quiet noise level of 49 decibels, which places it on par with most full-size dishwashers. And with a water consumption rate of under three gallons an hour, it’s far more efficient than hand washing. A nice added touch is the childproof lock, which helps prevent curious kids from causing a big mess.

But you don’t have to just take my word that the COMFEE’ Portable Mini Dishwasher is worth the purchase — Amazon boasts plenty of positive reviews about it. One reviewer speaks highly of its performance, as well as its sleek and modern design. Others call it a gamechanger for those who live in small apartments, or just want to take the drudgery out of dish washing.

All in all, the COMFEE’ Portable Mini Dishwasher is a convenient-sized appliance that fits easily on your kitchen counter yet gives you great cleaning performance and capacity. It has spared me from many a night spent on endless cleaning up by hand after meals, and at its current discount price, now is as good a time as any to get one!
