SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is now open to the public
As of May 23, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is finally open to the public. The theme park, which is the first to open outside of the United States, is located on Yas Island.
As reported by Detour, the marine life themed park spans five floors that feature eight realms for guests to explore: Endless Ocean, Antarctica, Arctic, Tropical Ocean, Microocean, and Rocky Point. Over 100,000 marine animals are featured at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, including 150 species of fish, mammals, reptiles, and birds. Travel Pulse reports that there are also 20 strolling characters and performances, 17 dining options and 13 retail shops throughout the park.
“It’s a momentous day for our fans and for us at SeaWorld as we see the culmination of years of intensive planning and collaboration with our partners at Miral to bring to the region our mission of experiences that matter, and inspiring guests to protect animals and the wild wonders of our world,” said Marc Swanson, CEO of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. “With the innovation, dynamic animal habitats and immersive nature of this park, we are bringing a next-generation experience to an entirely new region of the world that is very exciting to visit and enjoy.”
In addition to the theme park itself, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is also home to the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue. The rescue center, which opened in February, focuses on animal rehabilitation and welfare, the latter of which is also a focus of the exhibits throughout the park.
“Our first certification in the region provides an opportunity to recognize the extensive reach of the animal welfare movement at zoos, aquariums, and conservation parks around the world,” Dr. Robin Ganzert, President and CEO of American Humane said. “We are thrilled that SeaWorld has met the standards to become Global Humane Certified in this region, joining their sister parks in the U.S. that have long exemplified a high standard of animal care.”
