CheapCaribbean, Jose Cuervo collaborate on tequila-focused trip this October
After another sweltering summer, fall is fast approaching. Hot and humid climates will soon be replaced by cool and crisp temps, Halloween paraphernalia will line department store shelves and the smell of pumpkin spice has already begun to perfume the air. But before you trade in your swimsuits for sweaters, CheapCaribbean Vacations – alongside the world’s first tequila brand, Jose Cuervo – is closing out the summer with an ode to the beloved margarita during the Ultimate Tequila Lover’s Trip this October.
The trip is the culmination of what CheapCaribbean and Cuervo deemed “Margarita Season,” which started in May and ends in October. Together, the brands are offering guests an immersive look at the tequila production process with a day trip to Fábrica La Rojeña in Tequila, Mexico, the oldest distillery in Latin America and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The trip takes place on October 10th and is available to travelers who book a vacation package to Riu Palace Pacifico in Puerto Vallarta. Interested travelers must arrive by October 9th in order to participate. The day-long excursion includes transportation to and from Tequila, a Fábrica La Rojeña distillery tour, lunch, Cuervo Tradicional tasting, and an agave fields tour.
Although a collaboration with a spirit brand is new for CheapCaribbean Vacations, it’s one the brand considered long before finally taking the leap. The partnership with Cuervo came naturally, as it presented an opportunity to take what each brand does best and create something exciting for their customers.
“There’s natural inherent synergies,” Jaime Salas, Head of Legacy and Advocacy at Jose Cuervo, tells DETOUR. “They’re the best in beach getaways and we are the first tequila ever to be used in the Margarita, and really the first brand to popularize it shortly after that. And I feel like what is better than a margarita in hand while on a beautiful beach somewhere?”
Studebaker also notes that the excursion is a way CheapCaribbean Vacations hopes to appeal to travelers who want to bridge a resort vacation with culturally rich experiences.
“The resort is amazing, but sometimes you want to take a break from the resort and go do something else,” Studebaker told DETOUR. “Travelers are craving experiences beyond a beach vacation and us being able to pair the two together is very valuable.”
The hope is that the day trip to Tequila brings a unique element to the typical resort experience travelers CheapCaribbean customers know and love, while also giving them an inside look at Cuervo’s tequila-making process.
“The takeaway is that there’s a deeper understanding and appreciation for craft,” said Salas. “That goes from the tequila making process over to the margarita, which is how we mostly enjoy tequila, but also to shine a little bit of light on its versatility. I would love this to be a launch pad to people’s exploration around other great tequila cocktails and other applications that tequila works particularly well and that I think oftentimes we may not consider.”
