Local and national businesses are doing their part this weekend to celebrate and thank moms. Whether Mom is into octopuses, frozen yogurt, pie, or all of the above, there’s a freebie that she will enjoy on Mother’s Day Weekend.

Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, 420 S. Tryon St. Moms get into the Bechtler for free Saturday and Sunday. They also get a 10 percent discount at the museum store. The current exhibit is “The Art Books of Henri Matisse,” which features 80 framed original illustrations with text from some of Matisse’s books. www.bechtler.org.

Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, 6500 S. New Hope Road, Belmont. Moms can enjoy the spring flowers Saturday and Sunday for free. Also, the first 250 moms each day get a free potted plant. www.dsbg.org.

Hooters, all locations. Moms get a free meal, up to $10.99, on Sunday, with a drink purchased and when accompanied by at least one child. www.hooters.com.

The Pit Indoor Kart Racing, 346 E. Plaza Drive (N.C. 150), Mooresville. Moms get one free race Sunday when accompanied by a paying child. After that, moms race for half price the rest of the day. www.meetatthepit.com.

Sea Life, Concord Mills, 8111 Concord Mills Blvd., Concord. On Sunday, moms get into the aquarium for free when accompanied by a paying child. Ruby the Octopus will be showing off her growing skill set at 2:15 p.m.; she’s learning to solve puzzles and to paint. Shoney’s, 8531 N. Tryon St. On Sunday, Shoney’s is serving up a special Mother’s Day buffet, featuring favorites like shrimp, ham, turkey and mashed potatoes. At the end of the meal, moms get a free slice of strawberry pie. www.shoneys.com.
