Charlotte producer Michael Plumides wins a Saturn Award
Charlotte-based executive producer Michael Plumides has won a Saturn Award for his work on the restoration of Clive Barker’s film “Nightbreed: The Director’s Cut.”
Plumides and fellow producer Mark Miller shared the prize for Best DVD/BD Special Edition Release at the 2015 ceremony. It’s held annually by the The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, a nonprofit organization designed to honor, promote and recognize genre entertainment.
Writer-director Barker adapted his novel “Cabal” for the 1990 film. It’s about Boone, a young man unjustly accused of slasher murders, who crosses over into a subterranean realm called Midian, where monsters dwell.
Though it was a modest success theatrically, it gained status on home video. Shout! Factory released the director’s cut last October with 40 minutes of added footage and 21/2 hours of extra material.
