Now 12 years later, Sandra and her son, Shayan, now 18, are huge Penguins fans. Their favorite player is Crosby — the same player who unknowingly became the backdrop to one of the most personal moments of Sandra’s life.
“The Penguins play a big chunk of my life with my son,” she told the team. “Hockey glued us together, and that’s how we spend a lot of quality and exciting time when we watch the Penguins play. Mathieu being a part of it brings a lot of fulfillment in our lives.”
Sandra had spelled out her two dream proposal scenarios, and she got both without anyone having to orchestrate it: hockey was part of it, and the surprise was total.
