Elvis Presley's Ex Shares Rare ‘Memories' of Rock Star Life

Elvis Presley's ex-girlfriend is reflecting on her extraordinary experiences living with the King of Rock and Roll.

Linda Thompson took to Instagram to share rare, "memories" of living at Graceland. One of the many perks was the ability to fly anywhere on Presley's private plane.

A 1958 Convair 880 was outfitted especially to the the singer's tastes. It was a practical way for him to travel without having to fly commercial.

The aircraft, named the Lisa Marie, was a mini-Graceland, outfitted with the latest technology of the mid 1970s and all of the bells and whistles one would expect Presley would want on his private plane.

Thompson shared an image of the plane's interior, along with her description of life on the road with the King of Rock and Roll. She offered a glimpse into the glamour and whirlwind pace of touring in the mid-'70s.

"I flew on the Lisa Marie airplane more than 150 times with Elvis and his entourage! From all of his tours…to Las Vegas…to Denver for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich," she explained.

"I also went with him to Dallas, Texas to check on the progress and to help pick out the interiors when the plane was being retrofitted and customized for him. I have a lot of memories on this plane! It felt in many ways, like our home away from home during those touring years," Thompson concluded.

The plane was purchased on April 17, 1975 by Presley for around $250K. He then outfitted it to his specific tastes, adding $800K to the overall total cost. Once the renovations were complete, Presley christened the new aircraft the Lisa Marie, named after his only daughter with Priscilla Presley.

Graceland's official Instagram also posted video clips showcasing the plane's interior in honor of the anniversary of the day Elvis Presley purchased it. A corresponding caption called it "a time capsule of the 1970s, offering fans a glimpse into Elvis' life on the road."

The entertainer also purchased a smaller plane, called The Hound Dog II, a 1960 Lockheed JetStar. Both planes are on display across from Graceland and are available to tour.

Elvis Presley and Linda Thompson dated for almost five years before they split in 1976.
