Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced: Everything You Need To Know
Ubisoft officially revealed Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced today, and the details are substantial enough to warrant a full breakdown. This is a complete ground-up remake of the 2013 original - not a remaster, not a port - built in the latest Anvil Engine and led by Ubisoft Singapore with much of the original team back on board. Here is everything confirmed so far.
What Is Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced?
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is a faithful remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, the beloved 2013 open-world pirate adventure that followed Edward Kenway across the Caribbean. "Faithful remake" is the key phrase here. The story, the characters, and the soul of the original are intact. What has been rebuilt is everything underneath it: the assets, the lighting, the water simulation, the gameplay systems. Ubisoft describes it as being rebuilt from the ground up in the latest version of the Anvil Engine.
This is not a remaster with upscaled textures and a performance patch. The visual gap between Black Flag Resynced and the 2013 original is the difference between 13-year-old hardware and everything available today. Think ray-traced global illumination, fully modernized water rendering, and graphics assets built from scratch.
When Does It Come Out?
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced releases worldwide on July 9, 2026. That is a strong summer window with very little competition at the same scale announced so far.
What Platforms Is It On?
Resynced launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. It is also included in Ubisoft+. No Nintendo Switch 2 version has been announced. PC system requirements have already been published at assassinscreed.com.
What Is the Story?
Set during the Golden Age of Piracy, Resynced follows Edward Kenway, a rebellious pirate captain who gets drawn into the centuries-old conflict between the Assassins and the Templars while chasing glory and fortune across the Caribbean. The historical cast that made the original so memorable is back: Blackbeard, Anne Bonny, and Calico Jack all appear alongside Edward. The story is the same one that made Black Flag a landmark entry in the franchise - Resynced is not reinventing it, just rebuilding the stage it plays out on.
What Is New Compared to the Original?
Quite a bit, while keeping the core experience intact. Here is what Ubisoft has confirmed is changing:
- Combat has been rebuilt around a parry-driven system, replacing the original's more passive counter-heavy approach.
- Stealth is improved across the board, including the ability to crouch anywhere rather than only in specific zones, which alone fixes one of the most frustrating friction points in the 2013 game.
- Parkour has been overhauled.
- Naval mechanics go deeper than the already-strong original.
- Tailing missions - a consistent sore spot - have been redesigned with more flexible structure. New missions and additional narrative scenes have also been added, expanding the story without replacing it.
Ubisoft has confirmed Resynced is a solo, character-driven adventure. The original game's multiplayer mode is not returning.
Is It 60 FPS on Console?
Yes. Ubisoft has confirmed 60 FPS performance options on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Who Is Making It?
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is led by Ubisoft Singapore, with a significant portion of the original Black Flag development team returning to work on the remake. That continuity matters - the people who built the original systems are the ones rebuilding them, which is a very different situation from handing a beloved game to a team seeing it fresh for the first time.
It's worth noting that Ubisoft Singapore also led the ill-fated Skull & Bones, so it's both a good and bad thing. We know that the team leading this project has a lot of experience with ships and sailing, but have they learned enough lessons from Skull & Bones to hit the landing for this very important game? We'll soon find out.
What About the Soundtrack?
GRAMMY-nominated artist Woodkid is returning to the Assassin's Creed franchise to collaborate on a reimagined track for Resynced. The full reveal is coming later this year. Woodkid's previous work in the AC universe helped define the cinematic identity of the series during one of its peak eras, so his involvement here is not just a footnote. Layering that sensibility over Black Flag's pirate aesthetic is a combination worth anticipating.
What Are the Editions and How Much Do They Cost?
Three editions have been announced:
- Standard Edition ($59.99) includes the base game, available on all platforms.
- Deluxe Edition is digital-only and bundles the base game with the Master Assassin Character Pack and the Master Assassin Naval Pack. Pricing has not been confirmed separately from the standard tier.
- Collector's Edition ($199.99) includes everything in the Deluxe Edition plus premium physical items: Edward's figurine, a wearable metal brooch, an exclusive SteelBook, and a cloth map of the Caribbean. If you are the kind of person who still has shelf space, the cloth map alone makes this one worth a look.
What Do You Get for Pre-Ordering?
Pre-ordering any edition of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced gets you Blackbeard's Crimson Pack, which includes an exclusive costume for Edward Kenway, a matching pair of swords, and a set of pistols. It is a cosmetic bonus that fits the game's aesthetic without feeling like content that should have been in the base package.
Where Can You Pre-Order?
Pre-orders are open now on PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store, Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Ubisoft Store. Ubisoft+ subscribers get access on day one as part of their subscription. For full details, visit assassinscreed.com.
