Destiny 2 Is Ending With Free Massive Final Monument Of Triumph Update

Bungie announced that its hit multiplayer FPS game Destiny 2 will receive its final live service content update on June 9, called the Monument of Triumph. Monument of Triumph will be released as a free content update for all players, and will mark an end to nine years of live service.

A Quick Look At What's In Monument Of Triumph

Narratively, Bungie is opting to give smaller story beats with characters with the intent of leaving them in "interesting places," touching on themes across Destiny, instead of going for a grand ending for the world and story.

While Monument of Triumph will be the final content update for Destiny 2, content rollout will be staggered beyond June 9, including the rotation of encounters, events, raids, and missions that players can partake in.

That said, seasonal events will be retired, the rewards pass is being updated with content meant for future releases, and, for fans of racing, the Sparrow Racing League returns as a permanent fixture with new rewards for players to earn.

The Destiny 2 Collection Arrives June 9

Finally, Bungie will be making available a Destiny 2 Collection on June 9, containing all content packs in one product, allowing players to purchase everything in one transaction. This includes all campaigns, Dungeon Keys, and the 30th Anniversary Pack, among other things.

Meanwhile, individual content packs and expansions will also receive permanent markdowns in June.

Fans Have Bittersweet Feelings, Disappointment Over Destiny 2 Ending

The move didn't shock players, given that the previous update was called The Final Shape. Still, fans shared their sadness over the game finally ending, as many fans grew up playing the game over the past decade. There's also a sense of betrayal as Bungie's original roadmap of content updates is now overturned in favor of ending everything with Monument of Triumph immediately.

This final content update follows a massively disappointing year for Destiny 2 fans, marred by a slower rollout of content updates, less frequent raids, and an overall air of dissatisfaction amongst the community. This last rodeo by Bungie with Destiny 2 will close a chapter with its fans, as the studio pivots to a new game.
