Milly Alcock Reveals Why She Was 'So Scared' to Audition for DC Studios

As DC Studios prepares for the release of their latest film, Supergirl, Milly Alcock opened up about what it was like to step into the role of Kara Zor-El.

The 26-year-old said that she was "so scared" to audition in January 2024 at Trilith Studios, where Superman was currently being filmed. She told Variety that it was her first major role outside of Australia, and that she had never tested in person before. But it wasn't the audition itself that scared her.

"It's the stakes, you know?" Alcock said.

Meg Donnelly, who voiced Kara in two animated movies, also tested at Trilith Studios. But James Gunn, the director of Superman, figured that Alcock would be the star.

DC's executive, Chantal Nong, spoke with the outlet, explaining that he remembers the test well.

"Everybody had tears in their eyes," Nong said. "She wears her heart on her sleeve; she brings so much emotion to the role. We all looked at each other and said, ‘This is absolutely perfect. She's exactly what we want.'"

About ten days after the audition, Alcock got a news link from Gunn announcing that she had been cast as Kara.

"I looked at myself in the mirror, and I was like, ‘Who am I to turn down this opportunity?" Alcock said. "I knew that it was what I needed to do, because it scared me. And I thought, ‘Well, I get one big, bad, beautiful life. Why not f-ing go for it?'"

Alcock said that she's looking forward to Supergirl.

"I am so excited for all the young women who are going to see this - that's really going to get me."

In the interview, Variety reported that Alcock will return as Kara in Gunn's second Superman film, Man of Tomorrow, which is set to release in 2027. In the meantime, check out the trailer for Supergirlhere:
