Fans Rally Around Kathy Griffin Following Scary Colonoscopy Complication
Kathy Griffin's latest health update isn't ideal, but she is on the mend. The Emmy Award-winning actress informed fans via Instagram that a routine colonoscopy went wrong, unfortunately landing her in the hospital. On May 21, Griffin wrote, "Well, the sound got screwed up, but I made this video for you guys because I'm TMI anyway. I spent the night in the hospital because I had complications from my colonoscopy. I know, I know, very sexy, but I am at home now with the doggies where I belong."
Many of Griffin's fans wished her well in the comments section of her Instagram post. One wrote, "Glad you're ok," while another said, "Gurl… you need to write another book! Hope you have good people to take care of you! Rest and enjoy those doggies!" Griffin appeared to be in good spirits, judging by several of her replies. To one fan, she responded, "I have four, around-the-clock canine nurses." To another, she wrote, "You know me. I'm a bouncer backer."
The 65-year-old is known for being candid about her health struggles. In 2025, the Philly Voice reported that Griffin discussed her attempted suicide, cancer, addiction, and battles with PTSD during her "My Life on the PTSD-List" tour. "I became addicted to prescription pills, which is kind of funny, because who the f-k becomes a junkie at 57?" she said. That same year, the Suddenly Susan star revealed she underwent a hysterectomy "due to a precancerous condition." At the time, Griffin said more details would be shared on Patreon.
Griffin also opened up to PEOPLE in 2023 about receiving treatment for Complex PTSD, undergoing vocal cord surgery, and being diagnosed with Stage I lung cancer in 2021. "The thing that's been really kind of crazy, and kind of like a mindf-k, is that when I had cancer, I had no symptoms. Then I got the surgery where they took out half my left lung. And now, it's like I sound and feel like I have cancer. The thing that's frustrating is I actually sound like I'm in pain, but I'm not," she told the publication.
Kathy Griffin is scheduled to make appearances across the country for her "New Face, New Tour" show starting in September.
