Tom Cruise Shared What He Appreciated About 'Edge of Tomorrow'
In a 2014 interview promoting Edge of Tomorrow, alongside Blunt, who plays Sergeant Rita Vrataski, Cruise shared why he was drawn to the script, adapted from Hiroshi Sakurazaka's 2004 book, All You Need Is Kill. He explained that he believed the film is "adventurous [and] moving," with plenty of humorous moments. In addition, he enjoyed playing his Edge of Tomorrow character Major William Cage, who wasn't all that battle-ready at the start of the movie.
"I found it very, very funny, you know, first of all playing this unlikely hero, this guy who not in a million years would he ever see himself on that beach. It's just not in his fabric as a human being to be there," said Cruise during the interview.
Cruise also said he liked Cage and Vrataski's repetitive, time-loop "training sequences" in the film, which he compared to a Looney Tunes cartoon.
"I thought, 'Oh, this is going to be so much fun because we're coming up with how many different ways this guy can die or get injured,'" said Cruise. "We kept working on it, and I was finally like, 'Look, this is Wile E. Coyote, you know, this is Bugs Bunny.'"
