Nancy Guthrie Update: FBI's Next Move Could Unmask the Suspect

The search for Nancy Guthrie continues as investigators are still working through evidence in an effort to find out what happened to the missing 84-year-old.

In a recent interview, CEO and founder of the National Center for Open and Unsolved Cases Morgan Wright spoke with Fox News Digital's Mike Ruiz about the case. Ruiz had previously reported that the FBI is bringing in some "new tools" to help in the case. Though he wasn't given specifics, he said he believes these tools are technology based.

"The solution to this case is going to be, I think, something technical, something that they come up with - new ways of analyzing data," Wright told Fox News Digital. "I'm looking at the video, the video forensics, signals analysis, blockchain kind of stuff. If I'm going to put it into three buckets, I'd say it's going to come out of one of those three buckets."

When thinking specifically about video forensics, the tools could enhance the video of the person on Guthrie's front stoop the night she went missing, for example. It may also be used to enhance other video that the public hasn't seen. This type of tech could expose the suspect or his/her vehicle, according to Fox News Digital.

While investigative genetic genealogy is still a viable option that could identify the suspect, Wright points out that those tools aren't "new."

In a video of the interview posted on X, Wright says that he strongly believes that video footage is what's going to solve this case.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department has remained relatively quiet when it comes to providing the public with updates in the case. However, Sheriff Chris Nanos maintains that the investigation is still moving forward and that the case has not gone cold.

Last month, Nanos sent a message to the Guthrie family during an interview with KGUN-TV.

"They just need to know that we're not giving up," he said.

For Guthrie's family, investigators say the message remains the same: the search for answers is ongoing, and the case is far from closed.
