Metallica Sets Attendance Record with M72 Concert in Bologna
The metal men of Metallica are used to breaking records, but that doesn’t mean every record broken doesn’t have a special place in their hearts. Now, Metallica has broken another major attendance record.
The group’s concert Wednesday, June 3, at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara in Bologna, Italy, broke an attendance record with more than 47,000 metal-happy fans at the show. According to a post on the band’s official Instagram page, that actually marked the sixth record-breaking crowd on the current leg of their M72 World tour. So, again, these guys are used to breaking records. It just comes with the territory of being a legendary heavy metal band.

“With five record-breaking crowds already on this leg of #M72, the Italian branch of the #MetallicaFamily knew what was at stake… and they definitely delivered,” the band stated on social media. “Thank you so much for making #M72Bologna a night to remember.”
Next up, Metallica takes their M72 world tour to Budapest for a date on June 11. Perhaps they’ll break another record there. The band wraps up the European and U.K. leg of their tour Friday, June 5, in London.
After the overseas shows, Metallica will come back to the U.S. to embark on their much-anticipated residency at the Las Vegas Sphere on Oct. 1. For a full tally of tour dates, visit the band’s official website.

Following the history of Metallica, it’s wild to see a band that started as a niche thrash group rise to global stardom, offering up a mix of heavy thrash, speed metal and a more mainstream-sounding metal. They don’t look like they’re slowing down, either.
