‘Human Body’ gets under your skin
A new Imax movie tracks the tasks of the human innards as part of “Body Worlds & The Cycle of Life” exhibition at Discovery Place.
Following a family through a day of activities, “The Human Body” goes beneath the skin to explain the biology that makes life go.
Filmmakers follow the incredible journey of a tomato from plate to tummy to tell the tale of the plumbing that we tend to take for granted.
They take us to meet a human egg nested in a fallopian tube, reveal the mechanism of the inner ear and show us the microscopic red blood cells churned out by the body at a rate of 100 billion a day.
Though produced by National Geographic, the science center thought it the perfect partner to the “Body Worlds” exhibition, said Debra Smul, Discovery Place’s marketing vice president. “Body Worlds” features 100 specimens of plasticized tissue.
Ever been fascinated by the machinery of a factory? By the end of “The Human Body,” you realize that you’re the owner of one – a sophisticated complex built on millions of years of development.

‘Body Worlds & The Cycle of Life’
What: Explore more than 100 human Plastinates that capture the body at every stage of the human life cycle – at its most healthy, as it changes, grows, matures and finally wanes. All tickets are for timed entry and are not included with regular museum admission. Runs through May 1.
Where: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Sunday.
