Here’s what’s coming up in Charlotte’s visual arts
What to see
Observe paintings of daily, private moments by two international artists at LaCa Projects. “Intimismos” opens Feb. 21 from 6-8 p.m. with work by two artists, Berlin-based Octavio Garabello and Barcelona-based Franco Fasoli.
These colorful, representational collages (Fasoli) and paintings (Garabello) are glimpses into each artists bohemian way of living and include nods to relationships with other people, technology and art history, all contextualized by the city in which they have chosen to live. The work is on view through April 25.
What to do
The Mint Museum’s Constellation CLT series highlights artists from Charlotte by hanging their work in their public spaces. Katherine Boxall, fresh off a solo show at New Gallery of Modern Art, is the next featured artist at the museum’s Uptown location.
Originally from Canada, Boxall now lives and works in Charlotte and is currently painting large, colorful abstracts. Her opening is on Feb. 21 from 6-8 p.m. No museum admission is required.
Where to go
Winthrop University in Rock Hill is showcasing artwork created by new faculty in their Rutledge Gallery. The exhibition’s title, “De Novo,” is Latin for “new form” or “manner.” Artists participating include Sara Brown, Johnathan Andrew Davis, Anne Fiala, Karen Oremus, Michelle Livek, Claudia O’Steen and Jesse Weset. The work remains on view through March 6.
