Charlotte SHOUT! festival delayed until next year due to coronavirus concerns

Another popular event is being waylaid by concerns over the novel coronavirus pandemic. The Charlotte SHOUT! festival will be delayed until September 2021, Charlotte Center City Partners and Blumenthal Performing Arts announced Friday.

The center city festival was supposed to run from Sept. 14 through Oct. 4, with art, music and food.

It had been on hiatus since 2009, and was revived by Charlotte Center City Partners and Blumenthal Performing Arts in spring 2019. The festival ran for two weeks and featured over 200 events.

Prior to COVID-19, Charlotte SHOUT! had been moved to the fall to allow it to run for three full weeks.

It was canceled after discussion with health authorities, public officials and festival artists, as well as difficulties surrounding travel for artists, according to a statement from Center City Partners and the Blumenthal.

“It’s disappointing that we’re not able to proceed with SHOUT! this fall, but we look forward to its return in 2021,” Blumenthal president Tom Gabbard said in the statement. “The opportunity to celebrate music, art, ideas and food is something we’ll savor even more next year when it will be safe to be together, again.”

Applications for artists, musicians, speakers and vendors for next year’s event are available now. Those interested can visit CharlotteSHOUT.com for more information.
