Three masterpiece paintings by three of the world’s most celebrated artists will be on exhibit in Charlotte starting in April at Mint Museum Uptown.

“Dancers Backstage” by Edgar Degas as well as “Jack-in-Pulpit — No. 2” by Georgia O’Keeffe and “Autumn Drama” by Alma Thomas will be on view starting April 8, the Mint said Monday. The paintings are on loan for two years from the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

“This partnership is a remarkable opportunity for our community to experience firsthand some of the most celebrated works in the National Gallery’s collection,” Todd Herman, president and CEO of Mint Museum, said in a statement.

The Mint is one of 10 museums in the country that’s been chosen to be a part of the gallery’s “unprecedented” program “Across the Nation.” The program brings art to museums and communities that might not have direct access to such collections, Kaywin Feldman, director of the National Gallery of Art said.

The three pieces in Charlotte reflect the American experience through identity, culture and creativity, to inspire conversations about a “different way to see the world,” Jonathan Stuhlman, senior curator of American Art at The Mint Museum said.

Works of art on loan will travel to other partner museums in Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, Utah, and Washington as part of the program.

The three works will be in the Mint’s American Art galleries along with other works from the museum’s permanent collection.
