If you’re on the Internet, chances are you’ve played Wordle or have at least heard of it. It’s the puzzling word game that gives you six attempts to guess the five-lettered word of the day and it’s got everyone hooked.

If you’re an experienced player, you might be familiar with the sting of scoring X/6, a blow to the ego that would drive even the most scrupulous among us to ensure it never happens again — no matter what it takes. Perhaps that means taking more time for guessing or asking a friend for a hint.

For some, it simply means using Google to find the answer.

This graphic is an interactive map that shows each state. and how popular the Google search “wordle answer” is in each corresponding state. Each state is given a “popularity score” that ranges from 0 to 100, with 100 being the state where the search is most proportionately popular. Where does your home state stand in the ranking of states where looking up the Wordle answer of the day is most common?

Where do North Carolina Wordle players rank?

According to Google Trends, Vermont is the state where looking up “Wordle answers” is most popular. District of Columbia (although it is not a state) trails closely behind with a search popularity score of 79 followed by Connecticut who lands in third place with a search popularity score of 69.

North Carolina featured a popularity score of 39.

The sub-region, which seems to be the state that takes its Wordle-playing most seriously, is Nevada, scoring a noble 20 out of 100. Perhaps the Silver State has a surplus of virtue flowing among its Wordle fan base. Then again, it’s also entirely possible that the game is simply not as popular in Nevada as it is anywhere else in the nation.
