7 buzzworthy concerts coming to Charlotte in the next week
’90s Block Party
Friday 7:30 p.m. Spectrum Center, 333 E. Trade St. $69.50-$89.50. www.ticketmaster.com.
It’s a flashback to the ’90s and early ’00s with a lineup that includes Guy (featuring Teddy Riley, a founding member of both Guy and BLACKStreet), Tank (who had his hits in the ’00s), the reunited 112 (which released its first new album in 12 years in 2017), ’90s R&B heartthrob Ginuwine, and Next (which scored a No. 1 single with 1998’s “Too Close”).
3Teeth/Ho99o9
Friday 9 p.m. The Underground, 1000 NC Music Factory Blvd. $16. www.livenation.com.
Before hitting the road with Avenged Sevenfold this summer, the hip-hop punk group pronounced “horror” teams with L.A. industrial act 3Teeth, which upped its own profile opening for Tool and Rammstein (both of who inform its dark electronic sound).
Jimmy Buffett
Saturday 8 p.m. PNC Music Pavilion, 707 Pavilion Blvd. $66-$146. www.livenation.com.
Although his new jukebox musical “Escape to Margaritaville” debuted on Broadway in March, the 71-year-old singer-songwriter isn’t skipping his annual trek to play for Parrotheads at amphitheaters. In fact, his show marks the opening of the 2018 concert season at PNC Music Pavilion.
Sarah Shook & The Disarmers
Saturday 8 p.m. Neighborhood Theatre, 511 E. 36th St. $10-$13. www.neighborhoodtheatre.com.
On “Years” — the follow-up to her debut (which was reissued by Chicago’s alt-country label Bloodshot Records in 2017) — the N.C.-based band leader trades in tough-talking honky-tonk and pedal steel-laced classic country. She’s like a dissident of Loretta Lynn, but with her own distinct phrasing and matter-of-fact alto.
Bakalao Stars
Saturday 10 p.m. Snug Harbor, 1228 Gordon St. $10. www.snugrock.com.
The longest-running Latin rock act in the city headlines Plaza-Midwood’s Latin night with its party-starting fusion of tropical rhythms, hip-hop, punk, reggae, ska and Spanglish lyrics.
Eagles
Wednesday 8 p.m. Spectrum Center, 333 E. Trade St. $49.50-$399.50. www.ticketmaster.com.
While the idea of the Eagles without Glenn Frey seemed unthinkable after his 2016 death, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt have continued on after drafting Frey’s son Deacon and country music great Vince Gill to fill out the group, which celebrated the 40th anniversary of “Hotel California” in 2017.
Blackberry Smoke
Thursday 8 p.m. The Fillmore, 1000 NC Music Factory Blvd. $28. www.livenation.com.
Less than a week after the release of its new album, “Find a Light,” the Atlanta roots-rock outfit returns to the road. The album features guests Amanda Shires and Robert Randolph, and combines the Southern rock and jamming country it’s known for with a bit of the ’90s grunge that the band members grew up on.
