7 buzzworthy concerts coming to Charlotte in the next week
Acoustic Syndicate
Friday 8 p.m. Visulite Theatre, 1615 Elizabeth Ave. $15-$20. www.visulite.com.
The Cleveland County roots band’s Christmastime concerts at the Visulite are an annual tradition dating back about 20 years. At that time, the group was at its most commercial, flirting with national stardom thanks to an innovative new-grass sound and gigs at Telluride and Bonnaroo. It may have slowed down, but those roots remain.
The Beach Boys
Saturday 7:30 p.m. Ovens Auditorium, 2700 E. Independence Blvd. $55-$85 ($115 for VIP). www.blumenthalarts.org.
Original vocalist Mike Love and keyboardist Brian Johnston (who joined the band in 1965) continue to tour under the Beach Boys’ name with a nine-piece band for the Reason for the Season Christmas Tour. But it’s not just holiday standards fans will hear — the marathon set includes all the band’s surf favorites, as well as some of Love’s solo work.
Tribute to the ’80s
Saturday 8 p.m. Neighborhood Theatre, 511 E. 36th St. $10-$25. www.neighborhoodtheatre.com.
Justin Fedor (of Charlotte bands the New Familiars and Ancient Cities) has been organizing tribute concert fundraisers for Levine Children’s Hospital for years, raising close to $50,000. This time, bands including Time Sawyer, Ashley Armstrong, the Sammies and Evergone honor the Cure, Hall & Oates, INXS, Poison and Tears for Fears.
Chase Rice
Saturday 11 p.m. Coyote Joe’s, 4621 Wilkinson Blvd. $22-$25. www.coyote-joes.com.
Long before the “Survivor” runner-up was writing country hits and opening for Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban, he was on the NASCAR track as part of Jimmy Johnson’s pit crew. He’s back in town — his first local performance since Speed Street in May — for a more intimate and rowdy show at Charlotte’s answer to the Double Deuce.
Double Door Inn Anniversary Reunion
Sunday 7 p.m. Neighborhood Theatre, 511 E. 36th St. $10. www.neighborhoodtheatre.com.
It’s been almost two years since Charlotte’s home of the blues closed, but Double Door regulars can celebrate what would be its 45th anniversary. The bill includes its resident house band the Monday Night Allstars, music veteran Randy Franklin & the Sardines, and fixture the Lenny Federal Band.
Erika Jayne
Sunday 9 p.m. The Fillmore, 1000 NC Music Factory Blvd. $42.50. www.livenation.com.
It’s been almost a decade since the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star released her first full-length album, “Pretty Mess” — which gave her four out of her nine No. 1 dance singles and shares its name with her 2018 memoir. As 2018 winds to a close, she brings infectious hooks, killer outfits and sassy dance moves to town on her inaugural Pretty Mess Tour.
Pearl & the Charlotte Holding Company
Wednesday 9:30 p.m. Snug Harbor, 1228 Gordon St. $5. www.snugrock.com.
The Janis Joplin tribute artist returns to Charlotte for the monthly residency at the Plaza-Midwood venue by tackling “I Got Dem Old Kozmic Blues Again Mama!,” Joplin’s first solo venture after her break with Big Brother. Meanwhile, opening act Delfina Best will re-create the music from Bette Midler’s 1979 breakout film “The Rose,” for which the actress earned an Oscar nomination.
