Toubab Krewe

9 p.m. Friday. Neighborhood Theatre, 511 E. 36th St. $14-$19.

Its instrumental, globally inspired music is ever-expanding, drawing just as many influences from psychedelic fuzz and West African beats as from the star-speckled universe at large. Currently based out of Asheville, the group tasks itself with weaving innovative and amorphous styles of music that have electrified audiences since 2005. This show, which features Raleigh’s Maj Deeka as openers, will be the perfect spacey kickoff to your New Year’s revolution.

Carolina Gator Gumbo

8 p.m. Friday. Tommy’s Pub, 3124 Eastway Drive, Suite 710. Free.

’Tis the season, and these well-seasoned local veterans bring their signature blend of Cajun, Creole, country, swing and blues to Tommy’s Pub for the very first time. Carolina Gator Gumbo has been regaling Charlotteans with its jubilant revival of southwest Louisiana music since the 1990s, with a passion for the culture, craft and richly infectious rhythms of the specific style that makes this an easy band to fall in love with.

Scarface

8 p.m. Sunday. Neighborhood Theatre, 511 E. 36th St. $27.50-$32.50.

Best-known as a former member of Geto Boys, the rapper brings his Houston-steeped rhymes and a full band to NoDa as he takes a break from his recent run for Houston’s City Council. Across 13 albums since his late-1980s start, his lyrics have dealt with everything from his personal struggles with mental health to messages calling out injustice.

Charlotte Symphony

9 p.m. Tuesday. Belk Theater, 130 N Tryon St. $75 and up.

Class up your NYE celebration by joining the orchestra for a mix of Strauss waltzes, lighthearted classics, Broadway interpretations, and a finale of George Gershwin’s famed piano piece, “Rhapsody in Blue.” Tickets also include an after-performance party catered by Crave Dessert Bar with complimentary champagne, desserts, and dancing on stage while the Robyn Springer Quartet performs until an unforgettable midnight countdown.

Charlie Wilson

8 p.m. Tuesday. Ovens Auditorium, 2700 E. Independence Blvd. $61 and up.

The former vocalist for upbeat funk and R&B outfit The Gap Band will perform a soulful New Year’s Eve show. “Uncle Charlie” (as he’s called by pal Snoop Dogg) has had an illustrious solo career performing or collaborating with the likes of Kanye West, UGK, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell, and is deeply respected within the R&B music industry.

Sinners & Saints

9 p.m. Tuesday. Petra’s, 1919 Commonwealth Ave. $5.

This locally charged lineup is the perfect gathering for a neighborhood New Year’s Eve celebration with this stompin’ Americana duo as the headliner. The bill will be rounded out with LXS Ortiz, the sibling-led electronic side project of Chocala, and local dream-gaze pop act Pullover; there’ll also be a backroom DJ set by DJ Party Dad.

Gino Castillo & the Cuban Cowboys

10 p.m. Tuesday. Middle C Jazz, 300 S. Brevard St. $40 and up.

The highly accomplished Charleston percussionist rings in the new decade with his band, as they blend Latin and salsa influences into their unique Lowcountry jazz. Castillo has won Jazz Artist of the Year by Independent Tone three times.
