Country artist Chase Rice’s new video highlights UNC football

When Chase Rice, former football player for UNC, got hurt in his junior season, he took up guitar playing and song writing instead. And that’s how we got “Carolina Can.”

It was faded blue denim on Franklin Street, a “He’s Not” buzz, a house band beat.

Rice was raised in Asheville and was a linebacker at UNC from 2005 to 2008. And as he shows in his new video for “Carolina Can,” released Thursday, Rice has fond memories of his life in North Carolina.

The video features film from Rice’s football days and the blue cup from Chapel Hill bar He’s Not Here that Rice brings to every show. Rice is shown walking on the court of the Dean Smith Center and raising his hat to UNC’s bell tower.

And it’s brief, but there’s a shot of Rice’s tour bus passing under an exit for Charlotte.

“When I look back at my time at the University of North Carolina, I realize now that it made me the man that I am today,” Rice says at the end of the video. “It’s always one thing I can look back on and say I was proud of. I was and always will be a Carolina boy and a Tar Heel.”
