American Murder: The Family Next Door (Netflix) - Director Jenny Popplewell presents a pretty chilling documentary about family murderer Chris Watts, a North Carolina native who killed his pregnant wife and two small daughters in Colorado in 2018. There have been lots of true crime specials about this case, which is horrific, but this one is different. It is told entirely through archival footage that includes police video, Watts family home video, social media posts and text messages. There’s no narration, no re-enactments, no talking heads — and the undercurrent of “normalcy” depicted is absolutely chilling. Read more about the Watts case and the Netflix documentary.

The News with Shepard Smith (7 p.m., CNBC) - The premiere of Shepard Smith’s new show, which will air each weeknight at 7 on CNBC. Smith left Fox News last fall after 23 years there.

48 Hours Suspicion (10 p.m., CBS) - Michelle Miller investigates the death of Kevin Harris, an up-and-coming hip-hop artist gunned down in front of a music studio in Los Angeles in 2009. Harris had just sold a beat to Ice Cube and had been told that Britney Spears and Rihanna were interested in some of his music. No one has been arrested in the case, and the motive for his shooting is a mystery. But his family has continued to search for answers and they believe they are close to finding them — suspecting that a jealous rival rapper may be connected. The FBI has taken up the case, but they need help from the public.
