Abducted Off the Street: The Carlesha Gaither Story (8 p.m., Lifetime)
This new movie, based on a true story, “chronicles the abduction of a Philadelphia nurse’s aide at the hands of a homicidal predator, and reveals how she fought to survive and created a trail that would ultimately lead to her rescue.”
Riele Downs plays Carlesha Gaither, who was walking home from a family gathering when she was forced into a car at knifepoint. She left clues behind at every point, outsmarting her captor while trying to stay alive. Her mother, Keisha, played by Kenya Moore, goes to the media and pleas for help, and works with a committed detective to find her daughter.
48 HOURS: Justice for Amie Harwick (10 p.m., CBS)
Correspondent Erin Moriarty talks to the roommate of Hollywood family therapist Amie Harwick, the former girlfriend of comedian Drew Carey, who was murdered by a jealous ex-lover in 2020.
Harwick was much loved by friends and family, and was a respected therapist working in Los Angeles, when she was killed in the early morning hours after Valentine’s Day inside the home she shared with roommate Michael Herman.
Herman tells CBS that he can never erase the memories of what happened to his friend that night. He was in a downstairs bedroom when the attack occurred and was awakened by a “bloodcurdling scream.” He was unable to find his phone so he ran to a neighbor’s house to get help but no one answered the door. He was eventually able to use the phone of a stranger passing by on the street, and he called 911.
LAPD officers discovered Harwick alive under her third-story balcony, but she later died at the hospital. Inside the house police found signs of a struggle, including a broken window on a French door. On the balcony, a syringe filled with a yellowish-brown substance — but no sign of her attacker.
Moriarty tells Harwick’s parents that roommate Herman has “a lot of survivor’s guilt.” Harwick’s mother responds, “Oh, my goodness. He did the exact right thing.”
