6 NC singers performed during ‘American Idol’ Hollywood Week. Which made the cut?
In the first episode of Hollywood Week, “American Idol” judges narrowed the field of 143 hopefuls down to 56. Which North Carolina singers made the cut?
All of the singers were called at random by judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to perform in the Idol Arena in front of all of the contestants who received golden tickets.
“Historically, we’ve seen Hollywood Week really make kids crumble under the pressure,” Bryan said.
This year, six singers from North Carolina made it to Hollywood: Blake Proehl, Bethany Teague, Garrison Bennett, Anna Grace Hunt, and Max and Laela Dasher.
Here’s how they did.
Sticking to what works
Of the six North Carolina singers who made it to Hollywood, Blake was the only one featured on Sunday.
During a montage of singers who wowed the judges during their performances, Blake sang “Yours” by country singer Russell Dickerson.
The song was similar to the one he chose during his audition, “In Case You Didn’t Know” by Brett Young, when Perry suggested he could win the competition.
Which NC singers made it through?
Four N.C. singers survived what the judges called “the biggest cut in ‘American Idol’ history”: Blake, Anna Grace, Max and Laela.
Unfortunately, it was the end of the road for Bethany and Garrison.
The remaining 56 contestants were invited to the stage and congratulated by the judges — but the celebration was short-lived, when the judges revealed that the group will be cut down to 24 during tomorrow’s episode.
