Straight Outta Compton,” the story of gangsta rap pioneers N.W.A., is a musical biopic in the urban warzone of South Central L.A. It’s an Oscar nominee for its screenplay and is also available on a longer director’s cut. Also on Blu-ray, DVD and digital formats. Rated R.

Everest,” also based on a true story, puts Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin and Jake Gyllenhaal on the highest mountain peak in the world. Also available in 3-D on some systems and on disc and digital formats. PG-13.

Also new: the comedy “The Intern” with Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro (PG-13), the indie drama “The Diary of a Teenage Girl” with Alexander Skarsgard and Kristen Wiig (R), and the LGBT rights drama “Freeheld” with Julianne Moore and Ellen Page (PG-13).

Netflix

Oscar-nominated documentary “Cartel Land,” about the Mexican vigilante groups fighting back against the drug cartels (R), joins the previously available Oscar nominees “What Happened, Miss Simone?” and “Winter on Fire” (not rated).

Don Hertzfeldt’s 16-minute animated short “World of Tomorrow” is also an Oscar nominee.

Also new: “Hyde Park on Hudson” (2012) starring Bill Murray as Franklin Delano Roosevelt (R), the horror films “Curve“ (2015) with Julianne Hough (R) and “The Veil” (2016) with Jessica Alba (R), and the made-for-cable spoof “Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!” (TV-14).

Amazon Prime Video

The darkly comic Amazon series “Mad Dogs: Season 1” stars Michael Imperioli, Billy Zane, Steve Zahn, and Romany Malco as 40-something friends in big trouble in South America. For mature audiences.

Sesame Street” may have relocated to HBO but Amazon Prime subscribers can watch over 60 complete episodes from Seasons 36-40 (2005-2010).

Also new: the big screen graphic novel “Sin City” (2005) with Bruce Willis and Mickey Rourke and Takashi Miike’s “Yakuza Apocalypse” (2015), which pits Japanese gangsters against vampires (both rated R).

HBO Now

Sesame Street” has changed its address to HBO to launch its 46th season. New episodes arrive every Saturday morning and seasons 41-45 are available in their entirety on HBO Now, Go and On Demand.

The Godfather Epic” presents a newly restored and remastered edition of Francis Ford Coppola’s 1977 mini-series, which re-edits the first two “Godfather” films with footage not seen in theaters into a single epic saga. Features R-rated footage.

Showtime Anytime

The new 8-part documentary series “Dark Net,” which explores the dark side of technology and the hidden dimensions of the Internet, debuts.
