Jewel Says She's 'Protecting My Peace' After Kevin Costner Dating Rumors

Jewel isn't really looking for love at the moment.

"I'm all about protecting my peace," the 51-year-old singer told Us Weekly exclusively at the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony on Saturday, April 18, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. "If something doesn't help me protect my peace, I'm not into it."

Jewel's brief love life update comes after she was romantically linked to Kevin Costner. Rumors that the pair were an item started swirling in December 2023 after they were photographed together on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands while attending an event for Jewel's Inspiring Children Foundation.

Jewel broke her silence on the speculation months later during an April 2024 interview.

"He's a great person," the singer told Elle of Costner, 71, adding that "the public fascination" about their possible romance was "intense."

The following month, Jewel officially shut down dating rumors.

"I found love, and I'm not talking about Kevin's," she told People in May 2024. "I'm so happy, irrelevant of a man. It has nothing to do with being in a relationship or not being in one."

Jewel declined to answer any more questions about her love life, adding, "I'm just happy."

Costner, meanwhile, cosigned Jewel's statement in an interview of his own.

"Jewel and I are friends - we've never gone out," he said on The Howard Stern Show in June 2024. "She's special, and I don't want these rumors to ruin our friendship because that's what we have."

Instead of dating, Jewel told Us on Saturday that she's focused on her music - including her new song, "Upon Meeting the Goddess of Love," which was released earlier this month.

"My fans are saying it's a very old school song," she gushed. "It's a very poetic, storytelling song."

Jewel also reflected on her time in school to celebrate the Breakthrough Prize, which is the world's largest science prize.

"I think education is changing so much now, and how we should prepare our kids and our future students for this future that is changing so rapidly is a very interesting debate," she told Us. (Jewel shares one son, Kase Townes Murray, with ex-husband Ty Murray.)

"I was always very inspired by science. In fact, when I was homeless, I would read quantum physics books, just because it's so inspiring," she continued, "Quantum entanglement was so mind-boggling that if that existed, I could surely solve being homeless."
