NBC's Sara Gore Steps Away From Hosting Gigs After Breast Cancer Diagnosis

NBC host Sara Gore is taking a step back from her Open House and New York Live hosting gigs after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis.

"An announcement from Sara Gore," the official New York Live Instagram account captioned a video on Thursday, April 30. "Our New York Live family is sending her all of our love."

Gore, 49, was emotional as she started to share something "a little more personal" with viewers in the clip.

"I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I'm going to be stepping away for treatment and surgery," Gore explained. "If I didn't say that I was a little bit scared, I'd be lying - and caught off guard, quite frankly, because I watched my mother and my sister go through this."

Gore said she "always knew" that she was "high risk" for breast cancer because of her family history.

"I always assumed this day would come," she continued. "But let me tell you, you're never ready. You're just never ready, for some reason, even when you catch it early because you're doing everything right."

Gore held back tears as she added, "It is an emotional blow and I wasn't ready for that. That actually really surprised me. It really stung."

Gore assured viewers that she is "exactly" where she needs to be and is "surrounded by incredible doctors and people who are taking such good care of me" both at home and work.

Gore has been a part of the NBC family for 20 years, hosting Open House for 18 years and New York Live for 16 years.

"I feel very supported and as hard as this is, I'm choosing to believe - at least for me, in this moment in time - that maybe there is a gift in this even if I don't fully understand what it is yet," Gore added. "I'm working on that part."

She concluded, "If anything, it's already a reminder of how precious life is and how important it is to focus on what really matters … I'm going to come back better than ever, and I'm going to see you on the other side of this."

The social media video garnered well wishes from several notable names.

"Sending you love and healing!!!!!!!!!" Andy Cohen wrote in the comments section. "You got this!!!!!"

Today show host Craig Melvin also chimed in.

"You got this, Sara," he wrote.
