Teen dies after being struck by car in northeast Charlotte
A 13-year-old girl died Saturday, a day after she was hit by a car in northeast Charlotte.
The collision happened Friday at 5 p.m. in the 5900 block of North Tryon Street at Orr Road. The girl was standing in the median crosswalk, when she stepped off the curb and into a lane, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
She was then hit by a 2000 Honda Civic that had a green light at the time of the crash, police said.
The girl, who has not been identified, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center by Medic. She died shortly after 8:30 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Rudis Hernandez, the driver of the Honda, stayed at the scene following the crash, according to authorities. Police said speed and alcohol weren't factors in the crash.
Police didn't say if there were any charges related to the incident.
