Former Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Captain Jason Reid has been indicted on multiple charges following a months-long investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

Reid, who is the son of current Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid and unsuccessfully ran for the top job himself this spring, has been under investigation by the SBI since a former girlfriend reported finding a tracking device on her vehicle that she claims Reid placed there.

The woman, who spoke exclusively with WBTV in April, said she found the tracking device after Reid sent her multiple text messages with her location and, once, a picture of her car parked in a public lot.

Reid has denied the allegations.

The SBI executed two search warrants on the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, where Reid worked until earlier this year as the head of the office’s Narcotics Unit, on the first day of early voting in the primary election in which Reid was running.

A judge sealed the search warrants executed on the office in a closed-door meeting with Sheriff Reid and his personal attorney.

Those warrants were later unsealed by a different judge after a coalition of six media outlets, including WBTV, filed a court action to obtain access to them.
