Last weekend, I was in Raleigh for a boys' travel basketball tournament and got a chance to see Durham Academy guard Michael Savarino, the grandson of Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Savarino, a rising senior, is the son of Kryzewski's oldest daughter, Debbie.

This summer, Savarino is playing for the Carolina Elite Basketball Association, a summer travel team, and he looks a lot to me like a college basketball prospect. His CEBA 17-and-under team lost to Team Loaded NC's 16-and-under adidas Gauntlet elite team Sunday in a Big Shots tournament, but Savarino was one of the best players on the floor.

A 6-foot-1 point guard, he ran the offense well. He drove to the basket, finished layup attempts with both hands, and he showed off a consistent jump shot, a little reminiscent of former Duke star Grayson Allen, to whom Savarino bears a striking resemblance. Allen is now a rookie with the Utah Jazz.

As a junior at Durham Academy, Savarino averaged eight points, three rebounds and two assists for a 20-6 team.

"We've taken pictures of (Savarino and Allen) together," Mickie Krzyzewski, Coach K's wife, told USA Today in 2014. "They look more like brothers than Michael (Savarino) looks with his own brother. Right from the start, we have this tender place in our hearts for Grayson Allen — because he looks like one of my grandkids.

"(Allen) is very quiet. A bit shy. I think that the rush of our family onto (Allen) is a little bit shocking, because he's an only child. Boom! He's got all of us now. I think we're a bit of a shock to him. But he's an amazing kid, a great kid."
