Teenager killed in Charlotte played on Harding’s championship-winning football team
A teenager was found with a gunshot wound in southwest Charlotte early Sunday, and another teen has been charged with murder in connection with the case, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
Jamie Bright, 18, was pronounced dead at a house in the 1500 block of Clanton Road, near Clanton Park, police said.
Jermarion David Pernell Worthy, 17, was still at the scene when police arrived, according to a CMPD press release. He was charged with murder within hours of Bright’s death.
Police said Bright and Worthy apparently knew each other.
Bright was a member of Harding University High School’s state championship-winning 2017 football team, according to multiple local news reports. The team won Harding’s first state title in football since 1953.
He would have been a senior this fall, according to MaxPreps.com.
