A portion of a road in Cabarrus County is shut down Tuesday afternoon because of a deadly crash involving a tractor-trailer.

According to county officials, the wreck happened around 9:48 a.m. on U.S. 601 between Carriker Road and Mt. Pleasant Road South in Concord. Firefighters said the 10400 block of U.S. 601 South is shut down in both directions.

At least one person died in the crash, according to Midland Fire and Rescue.

County officials say between 20 and 25 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the tractor-trailer’s fuel source. The cleanup time is expected to take several hours, officials say.

Southbound traffic is being rerouted to Carriker Road and northbound traffic is being rerouted to Mt. Pleasant Road. Drivers are asked to seek an alternate route.

Multiple agencies responded to the crash.

There’s no word on what caused the crash. No names have been released.
