Weddington High is state champion again.

For the second time in three seasons, the Warriors are the class of N.C. 3AA, this time after a decisive 27-14 win Southeast Guilford at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill.

Weddington (15-1) dominated from the start, running out to a 20-0 halftime lead over Southeast Guilford (14-2).

Championship MVP James Shipley threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to his brother, Will.

James Shipley also caught 10 passes for 113 yards and a score, and he added a fourth quarter interception that led to his team’s final score.

Weddington QB Whitner Litton completed 12-of-18 attempts for 172 yards and two touchdowns.

Weddington, which lost in the 2014 final, has reached three of the past five state finals.
