Wherefore Art Thou Romeo? At KnightSounds Season Finale

Sure, we all know the famed tale of the star-crossed lovers, but chances are you’ve never experienced it like this before. This weekend, The Charlotte Symphony is bringing the Bard to the stage in its KnightSounds season finale performance of Romeo & Juliet. We—with a little help from Shakespeare—have the four things you need to know for this show:

(1) I drink to thee, Romeo!

This isn’t your average fancy cultural experience. The KnightSounds series offers a laidback twist on the Symphony with drinks while you watch, no assigned seats, and a shorter (75 minute) program. Plus, during the concert the theater will feature large screens with close-ups while the Levine plaza will offer a live outdoor feed.

(2) So, what’s in a name?

It turns out a lot (just ask the Capulets and Montagues) and this production has some big ones. Charlotte Ballet’s Alessandra Ball James and Josh Hall are collaborating on the event, which is directed by UNC-Charlotte’s Robinson Distinguished Professor of Shakespeare Andrew Hartley—and Melinda Whittington, a local soprano opera singer, is featured in the performance.

(3) Feeling like parting is such sweet sorrow after the show?

No worries. Following the production inside, you can catch Chickspeare, a local all-female Shakespeare Company performing “A Quickie with Romeo & Juliet” outside on the Levine plaza stage.

(4) Don’t be fortune’s fool!

This is your last chance to see a KnightSounds concert this season and the tickets are only $29, which includes one free drink. You don’t want to miss this chance. Buy them online now for the shows, which are at 7:30 p.m. on May 20 and 21 at Knight Theater.
