Feeling Primal: Huntersville’s craft brewery
Ray Steimel and David Hoy grew their Huntersville brewery from a love of beer and soccer. Primal Brewery opened in Huntersville in December 2014, after years of Steimel and Hoy creating small batches to share with friends. The two co-founders chose their roadside location to keep their brews locally accessible for friends in the area.
The brewery’s three-barrel brewing system creates favorite brews including the Grim Creeper Imperial IPA, Kick Ass Kolsch, and the Primal Pale Ale. Primal Brewery wants its guests to return to their roots. “There are no TVs in Primal, this is not a sports bar; we wanted a place that would be a social gathering spot,” says Steimel and Hoy. Instead of TVs, guests can mingle inside and admire the local art hanging from the walls, as well as the outdoor patio area with tables and umbrellas and a corn hole board space. Be sure to stop by 4-10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, noon-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon-8 p.m. Sunday and enjoy one of Primal’s brews.
