CANCELED: Choose your own tasting adventure at Beer Quest [Partner]
UPDATE: Beer Quest, scheduled for Nov. 19, has been canceled by organizer All About Beer Magazine. Refunds are refundable at the original point of purchase. “We are truly sorry that we have to cancel Beer Quest,” said Christopher Rice, CEO of All About Beer Magazine. “It is unfortunate not to move forward with this event, and this we apologize to all ticket holders.”
The best thing about a beer festival is the ability to try a wide variety of beers in a single spot. But what if you could sample your way through four unique sections of beer, all curated by experts who taste thousands of beers every year?
That’s what you can expect at Beer Quest, a new festival coming to BB&T Ballpark on Saturday, Nov. 19. The first-year event is presented by All About Beer Magazine, which also hosts the World Beer Festival in Raleigh, Durham and Columbia. Last summer, they hosted the North Carolina Brewer’s Celebration in the ballpark.
While this isn’t their first festival or even their first in BB&T Ballpark, Beer Quest offers up a brand new format. The festival features a variety of beer styles, all falling into the following four sections.
Hoppy and Curious: Hopheads will be right at home here, where you’ll find bright and citrusy pale ales, IPAs, double IPAs, single-hop beers and even a hoppy cider. Fresh hops, experimental hops, hops and tropical fruits — there’s something here for everyone.
Look for Wicked Weed’s Lieutenant Dank, Bold Rock Hard Cider’s India Pressed Apple, and Sierra Nevada’s Single Hop Experimental Hop.
The Dark Path: Don’t be scared of the dark! This section boasts stouts and porters aplenty, but don’t overlook the dark lagers, scotch ales, Belgian dubbels and dark saisons.
Look for Haw River Farmhouse Ales’ St. Benedict’s Breakfast Dubbel, Foothills Brewing’s Barrel-Aged People’s Porter, and Brooklyn Brewery’s Insulated Dark Lager.
Fizzy Yellow Greatness: Fizzy and yellow doesn’t mean flavorless — these are consummate ballpark beers, refreshing yet complex at the same time. You’ll find a variety of approachable styles here, like pilsners, wheat beers, Kölsch and more.
Look for 21st Amendment’s El Sully Mexican-Style Lager, White Street Brewing’s Emmalynn Belgian-Style Blonde, and Bell’s Brewery’s Winter White Ale.
Not 4 n00bs: As you might expect from the name, this section contains beers that appeal to the diehard craft beer geeks (but newcomers to these styles are certainly welcome). Here you’ll find a selection of spiced beers, sour ales, barrel-aged beers and more. These are cutting-edge, innovative beers with bold flavors.
Look for Prairie Ales’ Christmas Bomb!, Ponysaurus Brewing’s Plum Gose, and Triple C Brewing’s Eyes of the World Barrel-Aged Smoked Porter.
Ready to set forth on the adventure? General admission is $50 in advance (or $55 at the door, if available), and you’ll receive a tasting glass and unlimited four-ounce tastings from more than 75 beers. For the $90 VIP ticket, you’ll get early entrance at noon, food vouchers to use at the concession stands, access to the private bathrooms and a private lounge with an exclusive selection of rare and limited beers not available to the general public.
