Pride Awards Sponsors and Friends help build Habitat Home for Local Family [Partner]
With the Pride Awards on the horizon in January, the holidays are looking brighter for one Charlotte family as Pride Awards sponsors and friends participated in the first Pride Awards/Habitat for Humanity “build” event in the gala’s 24-year history.
The Pride Habitat for Humanity “build” event took place December 2nd from 8 am until 4 pm with a passionate team of Pride staff, community partners, Pride Awards sponsors and local leaders building a home located on Northaven Drive in Charlotte.
“Having access to a decent and affordable house is a challenge for many families in Charlotte,” said Dee Dixon, Publisher of Pride Magazine. “That’s why we’re working together with our partner Habitat for Humanity to help build a home for a family in need. This is just one way for Pride to make an impact as we prepare for the Pride Awards in January.”
Pride’s Habitat build tied in perfectly with the 2017 Pride Awards theme “Building Communities, Changing Lives.” The awards ceremony, taking place January 14 at 6 pm at the Westin, will continue its focus on upward mobility in Charlotte by spotlighting the West Boulevard Corridor with a focus on Reid Park. In addition, a video of the build will be shown at the Pride Awards and Habitat for Humanity will receive a monetary donation at the gala.
“The fact is that housing prices are increasing in Charlotte and wages aren’t keeping up with those costs,” Dixon added. “The work that Habitat for Humanity is doing in Charlotte makes dreams of home ownership possible for many whom otherwise could not afford it. Pride is proud to be a part of this important work.”
Pride Awards sponsors to date include Bank of America, Carolinas Healthcare System, Wells Fargo, Food Lion, Compass, Time Warner Cable, The Charlotte Observer, V101.9, WCNC-TV and Westin Charlotte.
