Former NC State quarterback Mike Glennon signs contract with Jacksonville Jaguars
Mike Glennon’s continuing football odyssey in the NFL has landed the former N.C. State quarterback with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Glennon, 30, has signed a free-agent contract with the Jags, the team announced Friday, and is expected to serve as the backup this season to starter Gardner Minshew. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Glennon began his pro career in 2013 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being a third-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, starting 13 games. He left Tampa Bay in 2017, signing a three-year, $45 million contract with the Chicago Bears, only to have the Bears make former UNC quarterback Mitch Trubisky the second pick of the 2017 draft.
Glennon played eight games for the Bears in 2017, starting four, before Trubisky won the starting job. Glennon then signed with the Arizona Cardinals, playing two games in 2018, before going to the Raiders and playing two games during the 2019 season.
Glennon has passed for 5,163 yards and 36 touchdowns, with 20 interceptions, in 29 NFL games and has a 6-16 record in his 22 career starts. He had 19 TD throws as a rookie.
“Mike is entering his eighth season in the NFL and will bring vital experience into our quarterback room and make us a better football team,” Jags coach Doug Marrone said in a statement released by the team.
