Former UNC star Harrison Barnes makes a donation to high school alma mater
Former North Carolina basketball star Harrison Barnes announced this week that he will donate nearly $200,000 to his high school Alma mater.
The Sacramento Kings forward played at Ames High School in Ames, Iowa, before staring for two seasons at UNC.
Barnes will contribute $195,000 towards renovations for the school’s gymnasium, according to KCCI 8 News. The renovations include more student bleachers, a video board, upgrading the scoreboard to include player stats, lighting enhancements, and floor mounted NBA baskets, according to a press release by the Ames Community School District.
Barnes was the No. 1 player in the Class of 2010 coming out of high school. He announced his commitment to UNC at his high school gymnasium and informed UNC coach Roy Williams via Skype.
Barnes played at UNC from 2010-2012. He averaged 16.1 points per game in 75 games played and 5.5 rebounds. He was voted ACC Rookie of the Year in 2011.
In 2012, Barnes was taken No. 7 overall by the Golden State Warriors, where he won an NBA Championship in 2015.
