Man’s body pulled from Catawba
Rescue teams recovered the body of a missing swimmer Sunday near the National Whitewater Center, WBTV reported.
The Observer’s news partner reported that a man’s body was recovered from the river about 30 feet from where he had entered the water with a friend while they were at a party. Officials were told he was a good swimmer, WBTV reported.
Charlotte Fire responded to the Catawba River near Kayak Island with dive teams just before 6:30 p.m. Around 7:00, Medic tweeted that rescue crews had gone into recovery mode and said they were looking for a person who drowned.
This is the second drowning at the river in the last month. A kayaker drowned on June 20. Officials had not released the name of the victim. Jim Morrill
