Charlotte traffic: 3 escape after high-speed chase on I-85

No injuries were reported after the driver of a U-Haul rental pickup truck reached 90 mph during a police chase on Interstate 85 Tuesday morning.

The chase led from near Salisbury to North Tryon Street at Orchard Trace Lane in north Charlotte, where the three occupants ran from the truck, Observer news partner WBTV reported. No arrests have been reported.

A man, meanwhile, was struck by a vehicle while crossing at Beatties Ford Road and Russell Avenue near Northwest School of the Arts about 7 a.m.

Medic, the county’s paramedic service, took the man to the hospital with minor injuries, WBTV reported.

The man was not in a crosswalk, and police told WBTV the driver will not be charged.

In other traffic incidents Tuesday morning:

▪ Medic took an Independence High School student to the hospital with minor injuries after the student was struck by a vehicle on Lawyers Road near Harri Ann Drive, WBTV reported.

▪ A wreck at about 9:15 a.m. blocked the right ramp lane of I-77 northbound near the John Belk Freeway/Wilkinson Boulevard exit.
